Correlation analyses of BMI and anxiety: Influence of socio demographic variables on their association

Abstract
The debilitating anxiety may hamper the normal personal, relational, social and occupational functioning spheres of an individual. This develops stress even in completing the usual routines which negatively affects the self esteem and in turn, enhancing the experience of anxiety. A vicious circle is formed which together disable the individual. Hence, the aim of the present study was firstly, to determine the BMI of the subjects, secondly, to assess the relationship between BMI and anxiety and finally, to examine the influence of socio-demographic variables on association of BMI and anxiety. For this purpose a sample of 120 individuals (63 females and 57 males) aged from 22 to 55 years were randomly taken from Uttarakhand, India. Results revealed strong relationship between obesity and anxiety. Associations were revealed between BMI and anxiety in accordance to the marital status of the subjects. Further investigations are required in this arena.
